Roleplaying in the Seaverse
Introduction and must-read to all SEA roleplayers

WHAT IS THE SEAVERSE?

This is a contraction of our guild tag: 'SEA', which we have used since March 2005 and 'universe'. The term reflects the world we create through our RP and it also is our virtual home. The Seaverse RP style has been honed over several years and the same standard of roleplay is applied across all the games we are, or will be, involved in.

GAME MASTERS
Our RP is watched over by our guild's Game Masters (GMs), who are experienced in pen and paper roleplaying as well as in MMORPG settings. Their role is to:

  • run plots and act out plot characters
  • roll a dice if a decision could have great consequences (a change in plot course, a severe injury, etc.)
  • help people to get involved with plots and activities
  • keep an eye on plots suggested (and run) by members to ensure that they are acceptable within the Seaverse
INITIATING NON-GM'ED ROLEPLAY
We can not guarantee constant RP. GMs need a rest too and other activities take place which all members are welcome to join in with such as daily life RP, questing and flashpoints. It's up to each member to join in and/or start activities when necessary.

REALISM AND REAL TIME ROLEPLAY
See Realism RP in the Seaverse. We roleplay in real time, a day in-game is equal to a day in real life, regardless of game day/night cycles. Travel times or any periods of captivity will be roleplayed as occuring in real time, although there are methods to account for time to try to avoid a character being unplayable for days at a time.

IN-CHARACTER RP GROUPS

IC groups within SEA are allocated a GM to ensure that plots are generally kept on track, whilst allowing for free flowing RP. Our RP is based on realism, no high level characters, or superheroes. Just your everyday person, going about the work he's/she's employed for. Occasionally, he/she might be called upon and required to display bravery and courage.

BEGINNER RANK IN A GROUP
It should be noted that when your character joins an in-character group, she/he will probably do so at the bottom or at the lower end of an appropriate rank. Many of our RPers will have been playing characters for many years, they have worked hard to attain a certain rank and new members will not usually be permitted to leapfrog over them. On rare occasions, and with discussion with the GMs, an exception may be made, but this is rare. In a new game, we all start at the bottom, with GM played NPC characters acting as our superiors. Character development and progression, in real time, is very important to us and it can take several months to achieve a promotion, to reflect the time it could take in real life.

NOT A MEMBER OF SEA?
If you are not a member of SEA, OOC guild membership is still necessary if you want to participate and join in with any of our RP groups. This allows us to manage plots and story arcs better and for you to develop your character within a like-minded community. Our GMs spend a lot of time creating plots and story arcs that are intricate and involved and careless inter-guild RP could very easily undo hours of work.

THE TREE RULES OF ROLEPLAY

We have three basic rules that apply to all of our roleplayers:

    1. No power emoting
where an action is forced on another RPer without their consent

    2. No god-moding
when a character suddenly changes their abilities to take advantage of a situation

    3. No meta-gaming
this has several meanings, but primarily no making use of out of character knowledge when in character

Above all, our aim is for all our members to have fun!
